Good news for those of you looking forward to Carl Rinsch’s first feature, a remake of 1976’s Logan’s Run.  Alex Garland, writer of great genre films 28 Days Later and Sunshine, has been hired to update the futuristic thriller.

Set in a futuristic “utopia,” the society’s members are put to death at the age of 30.  Logan refuses his mandatory death sentence and goes on the run to survive.

Warner Bros has spent over a decade attempting to remake the original film and newly adapt the novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. THR reports Garland’s script will focus on bringing the novel to the screen rather than updating the movie.

Joseph Kosinski was briefly attached before moving on to helm Tron Legacy for Disney, as were directors Bryan Singer (X-Men), James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), and Robert Schwentke (Flightplan).

Rinsch’s experience creating realistic science fiction worlds and Garland’s background in writing them make for a dream partnership for this project.
