Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, Whip It, has gained a few more ladies to star alongside Juno’s Ellen Page.

Joining her officially are Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis and Zoe Bell. Barrymore will also play a role in her film. The movie is about a roller derby league right here in Austin, Texas.

This description from the Hollywood Reporter: Harden plays an overbearing ex-beauty queen who would rather see her daughter, Bliss (Page), in pageants than skates. Wiig (from “Saturday Night Live”) plays Bliss’ rowdy mentor, “Malice in Wonderland.” Lewis is “Dinah Might,” the star of Austin’s top team. Bell plays a medical technician moonlighting as derby star Bloody Holly.

I like all of these choices. Harden never gets the respect she deserves, but is funny and talented. Juliette Lewis is a cool chick and doesn’t get enough high-profile work. Kristen Wiig is hilarious. Her dry humor in Knocked Up will always be my favorite part. And Zoe Bell is the stuntwoman who had her big break in Grindhouse. She was awesome in that and will be able to pull off some kick-ass collisions on the rink.

Great cast for Barrymore’s first film.  I just hope she doesn’t go with a rival Bring it On angle or worse yet, the Rollerball remake.  It begins shooting this summer if there isn’t an actors strike.
