The 81st Annual Academy Awards are ten months away and already the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is making announcements about the schedule.

The Oscars usually announce their nominations in mid-January, a tradition that kicks off a month of buzz and pretend analysts like myself making our picks. You’ll remember a few months ago when the nominations were revealed at the same time as Heath Ledger’s unfortunate death. Next year, Oscarologists (Oscariatrists?) will have to wait two more days in January 2009 for the nominations thanks to the President Inauguration on Jan 20.

Instead the names will be called on January 22, 2009 at still the unnecessarily early hour of 5:30 PST. Ballots are due before that on the 15th.

The ceremony will take place at the Kodak Theater on Sunday, February 22, 2009.
