Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell are set to star in the Kirk Jones – directed Everybody’s Fine.
It is technically a remake of an Italian film called Stanno tutti bene, which either translates into “everybody’s fine” or “forgeddaboutit.”
According to Variety, De Niro will play a widower who realizes that his deceased wife was his only connection to his children. He decides on a whim to take a road trip to reconnect with each of his grown kids, discovering that their lives are far from perfect.
Barrymore, Beckinsale, Rockwell, and others will presumably play his various children (in the original, the character has five).
It’s good to see Bobby D has gone back to more serious roles. He tried comedy for a while, and I respect that, but with this movie and Righteous Kill on the way (with Pacino) I’m happy to see him back where the legend belongs.
De Niro recently dropped his representation at CAA recently, ending a very long history with the company. Rumor is he’s moving to Endeavor, according to Nikki Finke. No one has really said why though. I’m not sure if it has to do with this movie.
Everybody’s Fine is scheduled to shoot in Connecticut later this month.
