About a month ago we posted a story about the fourth collaboration of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio in a movie called Shutter Island.

It looks like Sir Ben Kingsley will be joining the boys at the island prison, according to Variety. He’ll play the chief physician at the mental hospital.

The Lehane story is about two U.S. Marshals who go to the titular island off the coast of New England in 1954. The island houses a mental hospital for the criminally insane. The marshals are searching for a woman who escaped from the hospital but is still, presumably, on the island.

Kingsley has been taking a lot of unusual roles of late, particularly his involvement in BloodRayne. Maybe this will be a return to a form that we all remember… Gandhi. Starring in a Scorsese film could remind him that he’s an Oscar-caliber performer. Who knows, maybe we’ll see Gandhi 2: No More Mr. Nice Guy.

Mark Ruffalo also joined the cast last week, and will play the other U.S. Marshal.

As far as I know, this is still planned for a March 2008 start date.
