Writing/directing team Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor will start working on a sequel to the adrenaline rush Crank… right after they finish filming Game.

Not to be confused with the underrated psychological thriller THE Game, starring Michael Douglas, this Game thriller will be set in a future dystopia where humans can control other humans. It will basically be the massive multiplayer online type of gaming that millions of people are involved in right now, only instead of sending sweet paladins into battle, it’ll be real people into virtual slavery.

The movie stars Gerard Butler (300) as the good guy, Michael C. Hall of “Dexter” and “Six Feet Under” fame as the bad guy, and Kyra Sedgwick from “The Closer.” Recently added are John Leguizamo, stunt-woman Zoe Bell, Alison Lohman, and Amber Valletta.

Principal photography starts on November 5. Lionsgate will distribute the film domestically.

Shortly after that wraps they’ll try to get another ultra action Crank in the can, tentatively titled Crank 2: High Voltage. Jason Statham will somehow be back as Chev Chelios. In the sequel his heart has been replaced with a battery-powered ticker by a Chinese mobster and it requires regular jolts of electricity.

Who comes up with this stuff? Oh yeah, Mark and Brian. Statham apparently was so excited, he’s cleared his pre-strike schedule for this movie (that interview link contains spoilers for Crank, by the way).

I still haven’t seen the first one, but I’ve heard it’s awesome in its glorious ridiculousness and unfortunately now I’ve read the ending.

The duo’s medical horror movie they wrote, Pathology, opens February 8, 2008.
