Variety confirms that Jon Stewart will return to the Academy Awards for the 80th annual show on February 24, 2008 on ABC. Stewart hosted in 2006, but was replaced last year by the unfunny Ellen DeGeneres.

At least we won’t see a dance number at the beginning of the show like with Ellen or Billy Crystal, but instead some actual jokes.

Stewart did a decent job with the ceremony last time, but hopefully he’ll be able to throw out a few more controversial quips that he’s known for.

Unfortunately, the show continues to feel rushed and shortened, so unless they do something about the lame musical performances or the technical awards that no one cares about, then we’ll see just one-liners from the Daily Show host.

I personally would love to see Stephen Colbert co-host or host.
