After winning the Oscar for Best Director for The Departed, everyone wanted to know what Martin Scorsese’s next movie was going to be. Apparently he’s been working on a Rolling Stones documentary that includes behind-the-scenes footage and recent concerts on their tour.
Today, IMAX announced that the Shine a Light experience will also be shown on the big(ger) screen.
Scorsese isn’t new to the Stones or the music world. He’s used Rolling Stones songs in Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Casino, and The Departed. And he actually directed Michael Jackson’s “Bad” video in 1987 (something I wish I hadn’t retained) and a few other music videos. He also did a biopic about Bob Dylan in 2005.
So I guess I’m supposed to be interested in what he’s done with the Rolling Stones, but I honestly couldn’t care less. I guess I’m just outside the demographic.
Also coming out this year is another Bob Dylan movie called I’m Not There, which has movie stars playing various forms of Dylan. It has Christian Bale, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, and Cate Blanchett (yeah, she plays a dude).
On a side note, the PR guy at IMAX needs to a settle down. Every time a new movie is added to their lineup we get a major press release and the whole spiel about “12,000 watts of digital surround sound, crystal clear images and IMAX’s immersive screens.” We get it, buddy. It’s big.
