Kevin Smith announced at Comic Con over the weekend that he will direct one of the episodes of the spin-off series “Heroes: Origins.” The new show will focus on each character separately and how they got their powers, etc. Flanked by the entire cast of the show and in front of about 4,000 nerds, Smith was quoted at the panel as saying, “I don’t want to be the guy who ruined Heroes.”

No official word on which character he will be focusing on, though he made jokes about “two gay Japanese dudes.”

The series begins in April, so he will most likely shoot the episode in the next few months before pre-production starts on his next movie, Zak and Miri Make a Porno.

In a recent “Smodcast,” that he usually does with friend and producer Scott Mosier, he made a side remark to his wife about waiting until January to start filming Zak and Miri because they’re waiting on someone’s schedule to free up.

Smith has said publicly that he would love to cast Rosario Dawson in the female lead. She was hilarious in Clerks II, so hopefully we’ll hear soon that “she’s in!”
