The March 16 DVD/Blu-ray release of Disney’s The Princess and the Frog (which was excellent, by the way) will feature the first footage from their next non-Pixar project Tangled. The 3D fairy tale was originally titled Rapunzel after its main character, voiced by Mandy Moore, but the Mouse House recently changed the name for unknown reasons.

Disney’s Enchanted was a surprisingly pleasant experience, I suppose. It was at the very least a clever way to revisit the classic Mouse House fairy tales by mashing together the animated and “real” worlds. Of course, the studio isn’t accustomed to leaving their cute meta film alone.

Walt Disney Studios closed down the arthouse studio Miramax Films today after 31 years of developing indie films.

Just four months after making the shocking announcement, Walt Disney Co’s $4.24 billion acquisition of Marvel Entertainment is complete. Thursday morning (December 31, 2009) stockholders approved the merger that would make Marvel a wholly-owned subsidiary of Disney, according to the AP.

In a shocking industry development, the Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment in a deal worth approximately $4 billion in cash and stock. Last week Disney’s head of production, Oren Aviv, said the studio was planning to shoot a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean sometime in April or May with a possible release in 2011. If Disney wants to live up to that promise, they will need to lock in a new director for the next installment soon.
