Finally, a teaser trailer for Danny Boyle’s new film 127 Hours, starring James Franco as mountain climber Aron Ralston. The film will be making a few festival appearances, notably the Toronto International Film Festival and closing the London Festival, before Fox Searchlight begins its signature limited roll out on November 5.

Over the weekend, George Lucas attended Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando where he announced a complete boxed set of Star Wars Blu-rays will be released in the fall of 2011.
With Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher at his side, Lucas unveiled a “lost” scene from Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi originally intended to open the final installment. It is one of many deleted scenes Lucasfilm is re-mastering and preparing to include in the extras, along with documentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, and other bonus features.

Fox Searchlight has released an intense trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s psychological ballet thriller Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, and Vincent Cassel. The film will unspool at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals before bowing in the States in December.

Magnolia Pictures has released the official trailer for I’m Still Here, the directorial debut of actor Casey Affleck about a “tumultuous year in the life” of Joaquin Phoenix. The documentary chronicles the sudden retirement of Phoenix in October 2008 to start a hip hop career that went, as expected, nowhere. But his bizarre appearance on David Letterman’s “Late Show” captured more headlines, as the addled, disheveled Phoenix slumped nearly catatonic next to the host, sparking rumors that this is a staged, Andy Kaufman-esque stunt.

Magnolia Pictures has released the official trailer for Freakonomics, a documentary adaptation of the bestselling non-fiction book by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner. The film, which features an impressive list of exceptional filmmakers, closed the Tribeca Film Festival in May to mostly positive reviews. It will play On Demand on Apple iTunes, Xbox Live, Playstation, Amazon and Vudu on September 3 and in select theaters October 1.

An eerie teaser trailer has surfaced for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, a horror thriller co-written and produced by Guillermo del Toro scheduled for late January. A remake of a 70s TV movie, this spooky film is about a young girl living with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in a creaky mansion with hidden secrets.
If you’re a horror freak, you’ll want to turn off the lights and crank your speakers for the full effect of the whispers. If you scare easily, well, you might want to skip this one.

Marvel Studios has released the teaser trailer for The Avengers but, since the movie hasn’t shot a single frame, the video is simply Samuel L. Jackson’s voice over 40 seconds of an animated logo. This played to the packed Hall H audience just before the cast assembled on stage with director Joss Whedon.
The Avengers is scheduled for May 4, 2012.
