Australian “Entourage” beauty Alice Eve is joining the cast of J.J. Abrams’ untitled Star Trek sequel.
In typical Abrams fashion, details are being guarded at gunpoint, which explains why Variety’s Showblitz report is four sentences. Also included is a reminder that Paramount has bumped Star Trek 2 to May 17, 2013 due to delays in scripting and signing Abrams a second time. Benicio del Toro is the only other new addition, playing an unknown villain.
Latino Review thought they had Del Toro’s identity in their late Friday report. Khan Noonien Singh. The role played by the late Ricardo Montalban in Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan. Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman had previously suggested the 1982 sequel as a possible inspiration for moving the story forward in their own parallel dimension, which led to speculation that Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk would face off with a Puerto Rican Khan this time (Montalban was Mexican).
Drew McWeeny at HitFix contacted Abrams himself, who said simply, “Not true.” Who are you going to believe? The director, who has mastered the art of misdirection, or a hit-or-miss blogger with supposedly inside info? Of course, Latino Review is sticking by their “source high up the food chain,” and citing past experience. Here’s a thought: we could just wait? The movie won’t be out for another eighteen months any way.
Eve, however, is confirmed. Her biggest film to date was the appropriately-titled but humor-challenged She’s Out of My League. (“Entourage” spoilers coming up, but at this point… really?) Eve was also the lucky gal to finally tame Aquaman star Vincent Chase on HBO’s “Show That Stayed Exactly the Same Throughout Eight Seasons.” It’s safe to assume she could be a love interest for Pine in Star Trek 2. Alice Eve is attractive enough that even Zachary Quinto might need a second glance.
