Oscar winner Charlize Theron, Oscar nominated actress Vera Farmiga, and relative newcomer Kacie Thomas are all being rumored for love interests in Christopher Nolan third and final Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.
According to ComicBookMovie — an outlet, we should point out, accepts articles from any volunteer contributor — an inside source at a casting agency says Theron has been approached to play Detective Sarah Essen, a police detective in the DC Comics canon who partners with Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) — then a lieutenant — and later carries on a scandalous love affair with him.
Thomas, who starred with Theron in The Burning Plain, and Farmiga are supposedly up for the role of Julie Madison, a character who first appeared in the comics in 1939. Madison is an “oft-imperiled socialite” who is engaged to Bruce Wayne and unaware of his nocturnal activities. A version of Madison appeared in 1997′s Batman & Robin, played by Elle MacPherson, but her scenes were mostly cut from the story. You know, to maintain its exceptional quality…
Both of these seem contradictory to popular opinion that one of the female roles with either be Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman, or Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins). Besides, it seems far-fetched that a series that hardly took the time to truly develop Wayne’s relationship with Rachel Dawes would then suddenly have two love interests and one tempting the thus far virtuous Gordon. I’m unfamiliar with Thomas, like most, but Theron and Farmiga are great actresses and would make fine additions to the sequel. I just don’t believe the rumors. What do you think?
