Daniel Radcliffe in Ghost Story ‘Woman in Black’

Daniel RadcliffeDaniel Radcliffe, instantly recognizable as Harry Potter in the massive fantasy franchise, has been confirmed as the lead in Hammer Films’ 3D The Woman in Black.

The gothic thriller novel by Susan Hill and script from Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass) centers on Arthur (Radcliffe), a young lawyer sent to a remote UK location to sort out a client’s paperwork.  Working alone in an abandoned house, Arthur uncovers “tragic secrets” and the ghost of a vengeful woman.  James Watkins (Eden Lake) is directing, according to THR.

Shooting on the haunted house tale begins this fall.

Radcliffe has been lining up post-Potter films as soon as the final installment(s) of the wizard series wrapped.  He signed in June to star in a remake of All Quiet on the Western Front, but the WWI movie doesn’t shoot until 2012.  Radcliffe is also prepping to star in “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying” on Broadway.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I is due out in November and the final film, cleverly named Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, is set for July 2011.

Founded in 1934, Hammer Films was a dominant production company of horror films, until the ’70s brought changes to the market and financial struggles.  The company was recently revived and is producing Matt Reeves’ Let Me In.
