As Platinum Dunes’ Nightmare on Elm Street remake hits theaters this weekend Wes Craven is talking about revisiting another of his iconic horror franchises. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published this week, the legendary director discusses Scream 4, the upcoming slasher sequel scheduled for April 15, 2011.
Kevin Williamson, screenwriter of the first three films over ten years ago, wrote the new installment intended to potentially form its own trilogy in the “new decade” with “new rules.” Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette are all set to reprise their roles. “The story of Sid, Gale, and Dewey is very much a part of the movie,” Craven insisted, adding they will also introduce “new kids” into the mix. From his description, the plot will focus some on Sidney as a woman, having moved past the events ten years ago and how she copes with the masked killer’s inevitable return.
Craven also confirmed the new movie will be rated R and he is signed for the planned fifth and sixth installments, if audiences are kind to ghostface’s return to the screen. Williamson has said he plans to send-up manga comics, Asian ghost girl flicks, PG-13 horror movies, vampires, M. Night Shyamalan, and even the “torture porn” trend.
