Kiefer Sutherland Gearing Up for “24″ Movies

Kiefer Sutherland as Jack BauerIn February Fox hired State of Play screenwriter Billy Ray to adapt the television series “24″ into a feature film.  Now Kiefer Sutherland, who will reprise his role as super agent Jack Bauer, is saying there will be multiple movies.

Sutherland’s recent interview with Total Film discusses the planned jump to the big screen while hinting at sequels, presumably if the first is a hit with its loyal audience.  Even with its consistent ratings, Fox cancelled the series last month and the 2-hour series finale will air on May 24.

The movie will be a feature-length representation of a 24-hour day rather than the real-time format that has confined its writers for nearly a decade.  This extra “latitude” will allow the action to unfold easier and outside of the United States, which means this time maybe he’ll demand the Prime Minister’s help instead of the President’s.  “To put it in context, in the series, every crisis had to come to us, because we couldn’t move. Who wants to see Jack Bauer sit on a plane for four hours?” Sutherland said.

While I personally grew bored of the show’s repetition, I’d check out Bauer pointing guns at terrorists on the big screen.  It has the potential to be an intense, suspenseful movie series (if done right) with its signature ticking digital timer and Bauer shouting lines like, “There’s not enough time!”

No timetable was given on when this movie will shoot, or if it’s even been greenlit.  Who do I have to torture to get some answers around here?

We would like to see Cherry Jones in the 24 movies, if Billy Ray writes a part that is worthy of her great talent.
