John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, and Ken Jeong have been added to the cast of Transformers 3. Here’s the announcement from director Michael Bay himself via his official website:
On the talent front, we just locked in Frances McDormand and John Malkovich. Both amazing actors I’ve always wanted to work with. We also just got Ken Jeong, he is the super funny actor stuck in the trunk from The Hangover and the Doctor from Knocked Up.
It looks like 3-time Oscar nominee Malkovich, who was up for the villain in Spider-Man 4 before that sequel collapsed, has finally found his paycheck. That’s the only explanation for someone of his talent joining a franchise like this for a director like that. He’ll playing “the first boss” of Shia LaBeouf’s character.
Then there’s the shock of McDormand, who comes from a line of Coen brothers movies just like the confusing involvement of Transformers actor John Turturro. According to Deadline, she’s filling the role of National Intelligence Director.
Ken Jeong, well, that makes a little more sense. Aside from the comedic ridiculousness in recent movies, he’s also the silly Spanish teacher on NBC’s “Community.”‘ No word on who he will play, but you can bet he’ll be some sort of comic relief and maybe throw a few Asian stereotype jokes for good measure. After all, this is the series that already included two racist robots.
Pre-shoots start next month, according to Bay. Production is scheduled to shoot in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow and China. Also, the newest Autobot (good robots) to join the team is a the Ferrari 458 Italia (pictured below).
