Jonah Hill to Star in ‘The Sitter’

Published by Jeff Leins on February 25, 2010

Jonah HillJonah Hill has been confirmed to star in The Sitter for director David Gordon Green.  The 26-year-old actor has been attached to the comedy since the spring of 2009, but Green’s involvement replaces Jonathan Levine.

The Hollywood Reporter likens the story to 1987’s Adventures in Babysitting and says it follows a college student suspended from school living at home with his mom.  He gets talked into watching the next door neighbor’s kids, two boys and a wild 8-year-old girl on a “night to remember.”

This won’t be a remake of the ‘87 flick, but instead a more R-rated version.  Hill’s character Jonah makes a pit stop at a drug dealer’s house to pick up some coke, and one of the kids steals something from the place.  It’s a hot script, once attracting comedian Zach Galifianakis.

This continues Green’s streak of making slacker comedies including Pineapple Express, several episodes of HBO’s excellent “Eastbound and Down,” and the upcoming medieval stoner comedy Your Highness.  It’s no surprise when you consider he’s friends with Danny McBride (who appears in all three), but is a little disappointing considering Green has been a vocal advocate for meaningful indie filmmaking.

The two are expected to start shooting the comedy this fall.
