An official teaser trailer has been released for The People vs. George Lucas, a documentary celebrating its world premiere next month at the South by Southwest Film Festival.
The film explores the love-hate relationship Star Wars fans have with its creator, writer/director/producer George Lucas. On a basic level, the concept is brilliant. What film fan or sci-fi geek hasn’t argued over the finer points of Return of the Jedi, ranked the six movies in order of awesome, or griped about Jar Jar Binks? If you didn’t grow up with Star Wars, you’d probably think “Who cares if Han Solo shot first?” But for an entire generation, the special editions with random, unnecessary additions and the generally nonsensical prequels ruined the fantasy they adored by the man who created the sandbox.
I was looking forward to this film before, but this teaser trailer is pretty awful and now I’m just hoping I don’t sit through 90-minutes of whiny geek commentary and fan-made lightsaber videos. I’d rather watch a grown man play with a Boba Fett action figure for an hour and a half. Maybe I’ll schedule this one at the end of the week and see what the early reactions are. Again, wow is this trailer terrible.
The People vs. George Lucas is premiering March 13, 2010 in Austin, TX.
