‘Shutter Island’ Super Bowl Commercial

Published by Jeff Leins on: February 5th, 2010

Shutter IslandParamount has released their Super Bowl XLIV commercials ahead of the big game this weekend.  Yesterday we took a 30-second look at M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender.  Today a short, $2.6 million ad for Shutter Island, Martin Scorsese’s fourth collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio.  Doesn’t releasing them early sort of defeat the purpose?

The commercial mainly focuses on the thrilling elements and emphasizes the name and work of Scorsese, but I suppose that makes sense.  The Super Bowl isn’t exactly the best time to be touting its psychological mystery plot or its early positive critical reception.  The spot is effective though and, if it weren’t for the countless other TV spots running on every channel, it should create some awareness for the February 19 release.
