Johnny Depp will return to directing with a documentary about Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.
“Now that I’m wiser, and that enough time has passed, I can experience directing again,” Depp told Politika (via The Playlist), a Serbian magazine. “Already next week I’ll start working on a Keith Richards documentary. While I’m in Drvengrad, my editor is already working on kilometers of archive footage and footage of his concerts. I’m very touched that Keith agreed to show up in front of my cameras.”
The interview doesn’t elaborate on whether it will be an all-encompassing documentary about Richards’ life or a focus on his current music career. I’d like to know a little more about why he snorted his father’s ashes. That sounds like a good story.
The duo (pictured right looking like family) appeared together as father and son swashbucklers in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Richards was famously the inspiration for Depp’s Jack Sparrow persona. The accomplished actor has idolized the rocker for years and presented him with the “Rock Immortal Award” at Spike’s 2009 Scream Awards.
This is Depp’s second time behind the camera after 1997’s The Brave. Raise your hand if you’ve seen that film. Not so fast, Johnny, you don’t count. Anyone?
