Writer Hired for Third Da Vinci Code Movie

Published by Jeff Leins on: February 4th, 2010

The Lost SymbolColumbia Pictures is moving forward with a third movie in the Da Vinci Code series.  Eastern Promises screenwriter Steven Knight will adapt Dan Brown’s latest cryptology adventure, The Lost Symbol, for the screen.

A sequel was already underway in April before the second film (Angels & Demons) was in theaters or the novel was on bookshelves, but another Brown novel meant the obvious sequel since these mediocre movies continue to make money.  Though the returns are diminishing.

Tom Hanks, who played Harvard symbology professor Robert Langdon in the series, has not committed to return and director Ron Howard is only attached a producer for now, reports Variety.  I’d expect the two to go hand-in-hand on this.

Luckily Akiva Goldsman won’t be back because his dull scripts were part of the reason for the dull pair of summer films.

“Symbol” follows Langdon once again thrust into a harrowing situation involving ancient, yet easily decipherable symbols.  Only this time he’s headed to Washington D.C. to take on the Freemasons.  Dun dun dun.  The book sold over one million copies on its release date (September 15, 2009), making it the fastest-selling adult novel in history.
