‘The Last Airbender’ Super Bowl Commercial

Published by Jeff Leins on February 4, 2010

The Last AirbenderParamount has released the 30-second Super Bowl advertisement for M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender.

All I can say is wow, I may be eating my words on this one.  I’ve been making jokes at M. Night’s expense since I first heard about the movie, but as more footage and images appear I’m starting to regret being so cynical. This gives us more a bit more than the teaser from last June, but it may not be enough to capture viewers’ attention during the game or convert the most stubborn skeptics.  Fans should expect a full theatrical trailer on February 12 with Percy Jackson, etc.

I still haven’t found the time to try the animated Nickelodeon series, but there was a test screening last night in Phoenix and Ain’t It Cool News has two differing early reviews.

While we’re on the subject of TV spots, I’ll have all the movie-related Super Bowl ads here on Sunday night if you want to pop back and check out the ones everyone is talking about.

Take a look at the commercial below and tell me what you think.  Are you pumped for the July 2 release? Here’s the spot, straight from UGO:

In case you missed them, two teaser posters:

I'm huge fan of the animated series, along with my entire family. The new trailer doesn't make me any less skeptical of Shyamalan's treatment of the story. Martial arts is at the heart of the Avatar series, and the martial arts on display in both trailers look pathetic, no amount of flashy CGI is going to change that. And the reviews from the screening are none to encouraging, although I don't put too much stock into them since the reviewers have never seen the show.
