Bale, Bardem, McAdams in New Malick Film

Reclusive director Terrence Malick is preparing to direct an untitled romance story starring Christian Bale, Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams, and Olga Kurylenko.

Deadline.com’s Nikki Finke reports he wrote the script and plans to shoot next fall, which are unfortunately the only details we’re likely to get for a while.  Though this means he finally completed the edit of his long-delayed The Tree of Life, featuring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, and it may be ready for a 2010 release after all (probably at the Cannes Film Festival in May).

The methodical filmmaker has been known to take years (even a decade at one point) off from the art form, so two films heading our way back-to-back comes as a pleasant surprise.

Malick lives here in Austin, so maybe I’ll see if I can “accidentally” bump into him in the grocery store for more details.  I swear I saw him waiting in line for New Moon at the Alamo Drafthouse.  Who am I kidding?  Of course it was him.
