Bill Paxton is subbing in for Dennis Quaid in Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller Knockout. The film also stars former MMA fighter Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Channing Tatum, Antonio Banderas, Michael Fassbender, and Michael Angarano.
Paxton will play Carano’s father in the film about a covert operative double crossed on a mission. I love Quaid, but Paxton needs more movie roles and I’m happy to report he’s joining this big money movie.
According to The Playlist, Quaid had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with the movie Soul Surfer about the Florida teenager who had her arm bitten off by a shark. Instead of this awesome cast, Quaid is working with Carrie “Country Singer” Underwood, Helen “Where Have I Been Since 2000″ Hunt, and director Kevin “I Used to Play Hercules on TV” Sorbo. Ouch.
French actor Mathieu Kassovitz has also joined the cast.
Soderbergh is gearing up to shoot starting next week in Dublin. The Irish Press (via Playlist) reports “a considerable part” of the movie will take place in the city, including rooftop chases and fight scenes. In the article, the producer, Alan Moloney, insinuates the movie has franchise potential because the open-ended conclusion is punctuated by a question mark. Hmm…
