Daniel Craig Considering ‘Cowboys and Aliens’

Published by Jeff Leins on: January 14th, 2010

Daniel CraigDaniel Craig may be trading in his James Bond pistol for a cowboy six-shooter in Cowboys & Aliens. The British-born actor would replace Robert Downey Jr., who dropped out earlier this week, and starring for director Jon Favreau.

While it would have been cool to see RDJ and Favs re-team so soon after Iron Man 2, Downey is concerned about his growing list of mega franchises with Sherlock Holmes and the Marvel movies taking up too much time already.

Craig is in negotiations, not signed stresses the scoop by Collider, for the part of Zeke Jackson, a Union army gunslinger who is forced to unite with the Apache Indians when an alien spaceship crash lands in Silver City.  Futuristic technology and the Old West?  Hopefully Will Smith will do a song for the soundtrack.

Favreau is working with Transformers and Star Trek writers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman to blend the genres.

I preferred this idea when Downey was attached and willing to bring his charisma to what sounds like an off-the-wall project.  Now you’ve got Craig who’s a solid actor, but more of a serious bad ass than a horseback hero.

  • I love westerns! I am glad to see quality actors, directors, and producers putting them together again. I have written a wesrten novel that shows how America was built by men who stayed true to the values they were taught, even when others tried to take their dreams away.
