Blake Lively to Play ‘Green Lantern’ Love Interest

Published by Jeff Leins on January 10, 2010

Blake Lively“Gossip Girl” actress Blake Lively has been selected as Carol Ferris, the love interest in Warner Bros’ Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds.

Ferris runs her father’s aerospace company, and hires childhood friend and cocky test pilot Hal Jordan (Reynolds) to showcase their new flying prototype, says THR.  Jordan is then selected to inherit the Green Lantern powers, become an intergalactic warrior, and protect Earth from alien threats.  Lively will basically roll her eyes at the sarcastic Reynolds for the first half and play damsel in distress for the rest.

In December, Latino Review learned the Ferris part was down to five lovely ladies.  Lively, Keri Russell, Inglourious Basterds‘ Diane Kruger, Bond girl Eva Green, and Jennifer Garner were all in contention according to their sources.

Lively seemed to be the dark horse candidate since her only major movie roles were in the two Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies and she’s incredibly young (22) for the part (Reynolds is 33), but she reportedly impressed studio representatives and director Martin Campbell with her audition.  Lively can be seen next in The Town, Ben Affleck’s second time behind the camera.

I have to be honest, I skipped the pants movies and I never caught “Gossip Girl,” so I’m not familiar with her work.  Lively is easy on the eyes though.  She might even be my new love interest now, too.

Photography for Green Lantern is scheduled in Louisiana this March leading up to a release on June 17, 2011.
