A sequel to the successful G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra was inevitable (just look at the title), but Paramount has already signed a pair of writers to take the joint task force to the next level in G.I Joe 2.
Collider learned that Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been hired to write another Joe adventure.
After the October 2009 hit, the duo has quickly become a sought after writing team for major projects. Just recently they were announced as the writers of Deadpool, a spin-off of Wolverine at Fox. They’re also on board to write Zombieland 2, if they can find the time now. The pair even wrote a draft of Venom, a Spider-Man spin-off in the works at Sony.
The main actors are said to be signed for the sequel, but director Stephen Sommers hasn’t committed yet. I’d want to wait for a script too, especially since that was the weak link for the original. Of course, Sommers would know that, if he read reviews.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first G.I. Joe, which was essentially a live-action cartoon, but Zombieland was a fun ride primarily due to a well-structured script by Reese and Wernick.
