I’m sure it’s happened numerous times before, but Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez are making fools of themselves again and this time it’s movie-related. Sort of.
J-Lo believes she should have been nominated and won an Oscar for El Cantante, a film she produced with her husband Marc Anthony that currently carries a 24% from critics on RottenTomatoes. In Latina Magazine (via Cinematical), Lopez said, “I feel like I had that [Oscar worthy role] in El Cantante, but I don’t even think the academy members saw it. I feel like it’s their responsibility to do that, to see everything that’s out there, everything that could be great.” What was the Academy thinking, missing out on the singing-dancing-acting tour-de-force that is J-Lo? Hopefully they won’t skip out on the next showcase of her brilliance, The Back-Up Plan.
What about the real actresses? What about Mariah Carey? She has been (briefly) discussed for her supporting role in Precious as a social worker sans her usual make-up, which she has constantly brought up when interviewed. “I wasn’t just de-glamorized… I drank some ugly juice,” the diva said. Shouldn’t the focus be on the short performance and not her bravery for not wearing blush? She should have been telling anyone who would listen, “Remember Glitter?” if she wanted to highlight a true transformation.
Regardless, Carey picked up “Best Breakthrough Performance” at the Palm Springs International Film Festival before making a complete ass of herself on stage. Propped up by director Lee Daniels because she was too inebriated to stand on her own, Carey stumbled through an acceptance speech that’s simply precious. At the People’s Choice Awards the next night she told THR, “We had splashes of champagne, and I love Lee but he’s a bad influence.” Splashes huh? Watch the video below for the biggest embarrassment since Joaquin Phoenix:
