Indefinite delays on Spider-Man 4 have pushed the webslinger out of its scheduled May 2011 debut, while Sony scrambles to realign the sequel’s timetable and sort through script issues.
Marvel has wasted no time in filling the coveted slot with another of their comic book properties. Paramount’s Thor will instead open on May 6, 2011, shifting forward two weeks and guaranteeing even bigger box office numbers, according to Box Office Mojo.
The release date vacated by Thor will now go to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The fourth swashbuckling adventure with Johnny Depp will hit theaters May 20, 2011.
The Hangover 2 is tentatively scheduled for May 26, 2011, according to the site.
There are no other movies scheduled for those dates or daring to go in between, though I imagine a studio will throw some “counter-programming” in the mix starring Sandra Bullock or J-Lo. For the record, I would absolutely watch a romantic comedy where those two got together at the end.
