2010 is going to be a huge year for Disney. The Mouse House may have made headlines in 2009 by acquiring Marvel and returning to 2D animation, but the studio is poised to have people talking in ‘10. Two live action adaptations of their own classics (The Sorceror’s Apprentice and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland) and two anticipated sequels (Toy Story 3 and Tron Legacy) should be enough.
However, Disney has been sneaking plugs for their big summer blockbuster Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time into conversations. People are curious about a shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal and what Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer has done with him.
That was a long way to go to get to Legos, but at least there’s a point here somewhere. Lego fan site Brickset has five new Persia play sets featuring key scenes from the film, which means you can now collect Lego camels and figures with turbans. One that stood out to me was a box labeled “The Ostrich Race” because it’s the first we’ve heard there will be racing ostriches. Finally, a movie where the hero rides an ostrich through the desert in a high speed chase. This has been a long time coming.
There’s also play sets called Quest Against Time, Hassasins Hide Out, Fight For The Dagger, and Battle of Almut.
Take a look at the box below. A bare-chested Gyllenhaal (it looks just like him) riding an ostrich. Ages 6-12? The movie is PG-13. At least you get a cool Lego scorpion though.
