20th Century Fox has released a teaser trailer for Marmaduke, an adaptation of the long-running comic strip starring the voice of Owen Wilson as a Great Dane. The instant classic and Academy “Best Picture” focuses on the dog navigating a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, wooing the purebred of his dreams and overcoming a fall from grace.
The teaser is a parody of the opening to “The O.C.” (what a timely reference), right up until the big reveal of a 200-pound talking dog. Who said talking animals couldn’t be funny? Oh wait, everyone.
Here’s the trailer from Yahoo:
Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy are playing humans, and the rest of the animals will sound like Fergie (”The Black Eyed Peas”), Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, and Damon and Marlon Wayans. Tom Dey (Shanghai Noon, Showtime) is directing.
As lame as this looks, I’m not concerned about having to see or review. Regular readers know I leave dog-centered movie criticism to Rowdy the Chihuahua. He’s been practicing his keyboard technique and hopefully we’ll have his thoughts on the movie around June 2010.
