A teaser trailer and the first official images have surfaced for Robin Hood, the woodland rogue movie directed by Ridley Scott and starring the Gladiator himself, Russell Crowe. Oh, and Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Kevin Durant, Danny Huston, and Matthew Macfayden.
You won’t see any tights, “Oo de lallies,” or Kevin Costner in this clip, or the movie for that matter. Instead there’s plenty of sword-swinging, arrow-slinging action set to rock music, the not so subtle trend of letting audiences know this is a new version of the old story.
The reactions to the video seem to be pretty mixed. I personally liked the idea of Scott returning to the popular character when it was titled Nottingham and Crowe way playing both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham in a re-imaging of the story.
The trailer is embedded below, but if you want, nay need, Russell Crowe in high-definition, head on over to Apple.com.
Enjoy it while it lasts because after this Braveheart look-a-like Ridley Scott is making an Alien prequel and a Monopoly movie… Robin Hood is out May 14, 2010. Check out some images below from Australia’s Courier Mail. What do you think?
