After resurrecting Leatherface and Jason, Platinum Dunes is remaking and rebooting yet another horror franchise. Samuel Bayer’s A Nightmare on Elm Street is out April 30, 2010, and if the studio has their way they’ll siphon some summer excitement the week before Iron Man 2 dominates theaters. At least I can get behind the lead casting choice of Jackie Earle Haley.
Three new images are online this week, via Omelete, heavily featuring Freddy’s claws. I’ll admit I haven’t seen all eight of the Freddy films, but I was a bit disappointed he didn’t make it into space like Jason X. I’ve been wasting birthday wishes on that for three years running. Come on Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes, make a boy’s dream come true.
Here’s the official synopsis: Freddy Krueger returns in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape.
