Paramount has released a teaser poster (seen below) for Iron Man 2 that gives us the first official look at War Machine, the weaponized Mark II battlesuit warn by Tony Stark’s friend James “Rhodey” Rhodes. After a cast shake-up, Rhodey will be played by Don Cheadle and not Terrence Howard in the May 7, 2010 release.
The machine gun-equipped hero was shown briefly in footage at Comic-Con and pictures of the action figure have popped up online, but this is a better (yet still partial) look at what all the kids will be talking about six months from now. I think we all can agree it looks sweet.
As for other Iron Man news, Jon Favreau has hinted that a teaser trailer will be shown in front of Sherlock Holmes opening Christmas Day. Plus, in an interview with Empire Magazine, the director discussed the script phase and said Robert Downey Jr. was “very involved” with writing the sequel. Apparently Downey re-wrote some scenes originally penned by Justin Theroux and Favreau.
I’m a major RDJ fan, but comic book movies and actor rewrites brings back horrible memories of Edward Norton’s Incredible Hulk. Hopefully that winds up being an unfair comparison next summer.
But wait there’s more, the Geek Files has published a few concept art pictures of Whiplash, the Russian villain played by Mickey Rourke. It’s supposedly what the final suit will resemble, instead of the cobbled together parts of previous images.
Here is the poster unleashed over at Yahoo. What do you think?
