Since photography wrapped on July 18, director Jon Favreau has been tweeting his progress while editing Iron Man 2. He rarely reveals details about the actual movie, but for anyone on Twitter Favreau’s tweets are exciting little updates about how the visual effects are coming together for the May 2010 release.
When he’s not participating in trending topics, Favreau also interacts with his fans, retweeting Iron Man-related pictures or comments or thanks for his other movies like Elf. Then Thursday this re-tweet:
RT @Ann_Howard: @Jon_Favreau PLEASE tell us the trailer is coming soon – w/Sherlock Holmes, perhaps??
It seems like the logical spot. Paramount could be looking to other studio’s major releases since they have no blockbusters scheduled for this holiday season (it is distributing Oscar-bound Up in the Air). Sherlock Holmes fits the Iron Man demographic and it’s the clear favorite to top the Christmas holiday (though Fox’s Avatar should be a contender throughout the month). Plus it makes sense to pair the two Robert Downey Jr. movies. It’s looking like an Iron Man 2 teaser on Christmas Day!
A teaser trailer for the original Iron Man made its way online in early December 2007, so at the very least the timelines match. There’s no reason Marvel/Paramount wouldn’t follow the same pattern that launched a successful opening in May 2008.
Side note: Favreau tweeted he’s so busy with the edit he cut his hair with a Flowbee.
