Paranormal Activity Director Sets Area 51 Cast

Published by Jeff Leins on: November 4th, 2009

Area 51Oren Peli, the director that rocketed onto the scene with his micro-budget movie Paranormal Activity, has locked in the cast for his next movie.  Production is already under way on another “found footage” movie, but this one with a slightly larger budget ($5 million, compared to PA’s $15,000).

The follow-up, titled Area 51, will focus on three teenagers whose curiosity leads them to the legendary and mysterious Area 51 Air Force base deep in the Nevada desert.  Peli did not offer details when the project was announced, but described it as a “claustrophobic terror.”

Thanks to Bloody-Disgusting and their coverage of the American Film Market, we know who are playing those three teens.  Unknown actors Reid Warner, Darrin Bragg and Ben Rovn.  I’m aware this isn’t the most exciting news since no one knows who these people are, but I’ll point out these irrefutable facts: there are three of them and at least two are male.

For fans of Paranormal Activity, there has been constant rumblings of a sequel for weeks now.  Sony hasn’t confirmed they’re moving forward with a continuation, but Viacom CEO Phillip Dauman told the Hollywood Reporter this, “Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach to make sure that we benefit from a sequel…” Hopefully we will benefit too, not just the suits.
