Ricky Gervais to Host the 67th Golden Globes

Published by Jeff Leins on October 26, 2009

Ricky GervaisBritish comedian Ricky Gervais has signed to host the 67th Golden Globes, becoming the first host for the awards show since 1995.

The nominations will be announced December 15 for the live ceremony on January 17.

Gervais presented at last year’s Globes and started his bit by shushing the Hollywood audience. He’s perfect. Then he proceeded to crack jokes about Kate Winslet going Holocaust for award recognition. Gervais said the fact that he wasn’t nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc. was “annoying” and it was the last time he would have sex with “200 middle-aged journalists.”

I can’t wait to see him mock NBC and the HFPA. Everyone knows the Golden Globes are a joke, so finally someone will treat it as such.

The Invention of Lying writer/director/star won a Golden Globe in 2004 for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy” for his starring role in the British version of “The Office,” which he also created and wrote before producing the American, NBC version with Steve Carell.
