Anchor Bay Picks up Slammin’ Salmon

Published by Jeff Leins on: October 26th, 2009

Slammin' SalmonAnchor Bay has picked up the latest comedy from the Broken Lizard crew titled Slammin’ Salmon and is planning a U.S. release December 11, 2009.

The comedy is about a team of waiters challenged to sell the most in a night to satisfy their intimidating owner, played by Michael Clarke Duncan.  Aside from the usual cast, there are Cobie Smulders from “How I Met Your Mother,” Vivica A. Fox, Will Forte, and April Bowlby.

I had the opportunity to see this at the SxSW Film Festival in Austin last March and I thought it was pretty funny. It’s no Super Troopers, but most will agree there are few comedies of that caliber.  Salmon is consistently goofy and Clarke Duncan is hilarious. It’s similar to Waiting… only without the typical raunchy humor associated with restaurant stories.

Side note: director and Lizard writer Kevin Heffernan was at the screening for a Q&A and was surprisingly cool when people called him Farva for what has to have been the 745,567th time.
