Angelina Jolie is in discussions for a Ridley Scott project about murder and decadence in the world of high fashion. Gucci would tell the story of Maurizio Gucci, grandson of company founder Guccio Gucci, who was shot and killed by a contract hitman in 1995.
Jole would play his ex-wife Patrizia Gucci, who was sentenced to 29 years after it was discovered she hired the contract killer. During the case, Patrizia claimed she was coerced into going with the plot by her personal psychic.
Scott has approached Body of Lies collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio for the male lead, but the extremely busy actor/producer is not attached at this point. Maybe he’ll find time in his schedule to be (fake) gunned down in front of a mansion.
His death came at the height of the Gucci family business when the dynasty was pushing $500 million in fashion products a year during the 70’s and 80’s. That’s a lot of expensive clothes and fragrances, but apparently they’re sexy enough to make you put your thumb in someone’s mouth.
Gucci isn’t ready just yet as writers haven’t been hired to rework the story into a drama, but according to Variety Fox 2000 is hoping for a 2010 start date.
Jolie recently attracted Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck for her spy thriller The Tourist and now seems to be the top choice for Scott. Meanwhile, the prolific director is completing work on his untitled Robin Hood movie, preparing to direct a prequel to Alien, and lining up ideas for a Monopoly board game adaptation.
