Edge of Darkness Trailer and Poster

Published by Jeff Leins on: October 15th, 2009

Warner Bros has released the theatrical trailer for Edge of Darkness, another Boston-based thriller from screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed).  Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, the upcoming Green Lantern) directed Mel Gibson in his return to acting after a seven year hiatus. The film is an adaptation of the 1985 UK miniseries by the same name.

Robert De Niro was originally supposed to playing a supporting role, but backed out as shooting started. He was replaced by Ray Winstone.

Here’s a rough synopsis:
As homicide detective Thomas Craven (Gibson) investigates the death of his activist daughter, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence.

Check out Mel Gibson trying on a Boston accent in the trailer below:

Edge of Darkness will be released January 29, 2010. That’s almost the same day a year after Taken’s sleeper success.
