Pixar director Lee Unkrich revealed more details on Toy Story 3 on Monday via his Twitter page. Speaking directly to fans in a video announcement, Unkrich revealed voice casting details and exciting news about the re-release of the first two movies.
First, a few voice casting tidbits. Comedienne Kristen Schaal (”Flight of the Conchords”) is recording for an unknown character in the movie. Blake Clarke is taking over for the voice of Slinky Dog after the passing of his friend Jim Varney in 2000.
The rest of the voice cast will be returning including Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear), Joan Cusack (Jessie), and John Morris (Andy). Michael Keaton is voicing a Ken doll.
Also, if you haven’t had a chance to see the Toy Story and Toy Story 2 3-D double bill in theaters, you’ll have the opportunity for a bit longer. The four-hour experience made $22.8 million in 10 days. Unkrich confirmed that due to it’s success Disney/Pixar has extended the initial two week limited run. Disney domestic distribution president said it’s an “open engagement” but speculation is it will disappear at the end of October when the 3-D motion-capture movie A Christmas Carol is released.
Now for one more character banner from MSNBC. Mr. Potato Head, voiced by Don Rickles:
