Anvil! The Story of AnvilAnvil, the Canadian rock band featured in the documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, will make a cameo appearance in The Green Hornet. The masked hero movie is currently filming under the direction of Michel Gondry and starring Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, and Christop Waltz.

In a story about Anvil’s recent success, the LA Times mentioned their small part in the Sony picture filmed October 8.  “They made their movie debut on the set of fan and director Michel Gondry’s big-budget flick The Green Hornet, filming a cameo where they (literally) explode playing in a rock club.”

The documentary, which just came out on DVD last Tuesday, follows the story of the 50-something rockers who once influenced notable metal bands Slayer and Metallica.  Former Anvil roadie and screenwriter Sacha Gervasi directed a look into their struggling music careers, playing miniscule gigs and touring for tiny overseas locations.  The independent film played several festivals and gathered 98% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes before becoming the first Academy screener sent to the membership for Oscar consideration.

Since the doc, Anvil has opened for AC/DC, played Giant Stadium, and performed on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.” Now they might be Oscar bound.

ANVIL RULES! As a 40-something fan of the band since 'Metal On Metal' I am overjoyed by thier FINALLY getting the recognition they deserve! As far as me being a GREEN HORNET fan, I must say this--SETH ROGAN??? Oh please--say it ain't SO! Call in the geek squad somebody QUICK! What--is he going to wear a full body latex suit? Or will they CGI him into coolness? There could be so MANY better choices for the role...I smell a quirky, douche-chill inducing STINKER here folks--and what happened to Jet Li as Kato? This flick has lost all credibility with me, sorry. Lips would make a better GREEN HORNET!
