Angelina Jolie May Replace Theron in ‘Tourist’

After years of being attached to The Tourist, Charlize Theron has left the movie and Angelina Jolie is in talks to replace the Oscar winner.  The director, Bharat Nalluri, has also opted out according to THR, so Spyglass Entertainment producers are trying to lock down the second sexy actress and a new talent to film her.

Tom Cruise was also attached this time last year, but he has since found other work. Sam Worthington will now play the male lead (the tourist).

A remake of 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer, the plot centers on an innocent American traveler (Worthington) caught up in an international operation to bring in a global criminal. Cara (Jolie) is the stunning girlfriend of a thief that underwent extensive plastic surgery to conceal his identity, and authorities are following her in hopes she leads them to their mystery man. She falls in with the similarly built Frank (the tourist) to throw them off.

The spy thriller is familiar ground for Jolie who just completed work on Salt, a CIA agent on the run movie. The Tourist is similar to Mission: Impossible, so it’s no wonder Cruise passed on it especially since he’s currently filming Knight and Day (formerly titled Wichita) about a federal agent chasing an infinite power source.
