Trejo Joins Predators, Plus a Look at the Script

Fresh off of working with director Robert Rodriguez on Machete, Danny Trejo has joined the cast of the Rodriguez-produced Predators for Fox.  Nimrod Antal (Vacancy) is directing.

According to the tattooed actor, the film begins shooting in a month.  The likely locations are Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin and a few key shots in the brushy areas of Hawaii.

LatinoReview has a script review (a new draft, not the old 1996 version) of Predators with some more details on the plot.  The action takes place in the jungles of the Predator home planet where eight carefully selected human assassins have been dropped after being snatched from Earth.

Trejo will play “Cuchillo,” a Mexican-American enforcer from a drug cartel with “twin Uzis strapped to his back.”  There’s also a Russian with a rotary machine gun, a French woman with a sniper rifle, a prisoner with a shank, an African member of the Death Squad, a bad ass Japanese Yakuza enforcer, and a member of the FBI’s most wanted list.

Basically the Predators are hunting some of the best killers our planet has to offer, so there will definitely be more than one cloaked alien in this leafy “game preserve.”  The script also includes a “black super predator” with superior fighting abilities.

Finally, the script allows for a cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger, who starred in the original Predator.  In June, Rodriguez stressed he hadn’t contacted the outgoing California governor, but this could all change as his final term winds down.  This was before a director had been announced and a script completed.
