Scream 4 Details, Neve Cambell Returns

Published by Jeff Leins on: September 27th, 2009

ScreamBob Weinstein unleashed a slew of details to Variety about his company’s new slate, especially a fourth Scream.  The new installment has been called a “restart” of the franchise and will kick off a new trilogy of clever slashers.

Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette have already been confirmed, but Weinstein added Neve Campbell’s name to the returning cast.  Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for Scream 1-2, had Tweeted about writing Campbell out of the new script but I guess they worked out a deal to bring her back in.  What else does she have going on?

While those three may end being cameos, the Weinsteins are trying to lure director Wes Craven into the mix.  It seems like a great opportunity to poke fun at the abysmal state of horror, so I hope he takes it.  A meta parody about horror remakes and reboots?  That sounds perfect.

Production is tentatively scheduled for April or May, but there’s no word on whether they’ll shoot in 3-D, Bob Weinstein’s new favorite gimmick.  In addition, the struggling studio is remaking or adding an installment to Halloween (without Rob Zombie), Hellraiser, Scanners, Short Circuit, An American Werewolf in London, Spy Kids (4!), and Children of the Corn.  Most, if not all, are candidates for 3-D.
