Duncan Jones, the director of the excellent sci-fi film Moon, has released the first concept art from his next movie. Titled simply Mute, the thriller is about a mute bartender looking for his abducted girlfriend in a possible future Berlin. The two villains of the movie are actually comedians.
As you can see from the image, it’s very Blade Runner, a major influence on Jones as a lad. He regularly cites Ridley Scott as one of his cinematic heroes, so it’s not surprising the concept bares the resemblance. What’s not to like about hover cars though?
According to the website where this art originated, the film is already in pre-production and scheduled for filming in Berlin sometime in early 2010. Studio Babelsberg is already on board, but no word on an expected release date or casting yet.
Jones was originally thought to be working on Escape from the Deep, an undersea naval thriller about a U.S. Navy submarine that sunk during in World War II. It looks like that is still in the scripting phase will he moves ahead on another science fiction story. You can follow the enthusiastic young filmmaker on Twitter for all the firsthand updates or check out his unofficial blog website.
