At the MTV Music Awards last weekend, Summit Entertainment unveiled the theatrical trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the second in the popular vampire series. Stars Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Kristen Stewart were on hand to present the clip to screaming audience. This is where I’d make a comment about Kanye and Taylor Swift, but I doubt anyone cares anymore.
The sequel picks up where the original left off only Edward (Pattinson) leaves Bella (Stewart) to protect her against the threat of vampires. She later has to rush to Italy to stop him from committing suicide at the hands of the vampire governing body, the Volturi. In the meantime Bella buddies up to Jacob (Lautner), who turns out to be a teen wolf.
The new extended trailer gave glimpses of the wolf pack (including a shirtless Lautner), the menacing Volturi coven, and considerably more action. Having secured the female audience, Summit looks to target a male demographic almost entirely ignored with the first movie. Good luck with that…
The production values have definitely improved since Catherine Hardwicke’s original offering. The new look is partially due to the addition of director Chris Weitz, who took over for Hardwicke, as well as cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe, who also worked on Oscar hopeful The Road and has returned for the currently in-production Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
Take a look at the trailer and then tell me what you think in the comments section below:
Nine weeks before the sequel’s release on November 20, a few online ticket outlets are reporting sellout showtimes for the release. Fandango.com says New Moon accounts for 57% of all its ticket sales and it already showing 50 sold out slots. The closest was this weekend’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs with 9%. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say people are excited for this one.
Yahoo has released a few new character shots from the film, which you can see by clicking the Edward picture below:
