The studio acquired the rehearsal footage and behind-the-scenes clips from concert promoter AEG Live for $60 million, the biggest deal in documentary rights history.  The Kenny Ortega-directed film is scheduled for a two week limited run on October 28, 2009.  Tickets go on sale a month in advance.

The poster is simple, just a silhouette of the pop idol made up of roughly 13 different Michael Jackson pictures and the slogan, “Like you’ve never seen him before.”  Well, it’s a catchy, highly original tagline, I have to admit.  I can’t be certain, but I think they meant, “you know, without a mask over his face or riding a Ferris wheel to Crazy Town.”

Jackson overdosed on medication, suffered a cardiac arrest, and died on June 25 at the age of 50.  He was buried on September 3, 2009.  The coroner recently ruled his death a homicide and an investigation into the singer’s doctor is underway.
