Rumor has it David Fincher has found his cast for The Social Network, a story focusing on the early days of Facebook written by Aaron Sorkin. The screenplay was based on the novel “The Accidental Billionaires” by Ben Mezrich (21).
Carson Reeves of Scriptshadow reviewed and described the script as “unpredictable, funny, touching and sad” before ranking it in his top 10. In late August we heard from EndofShow Columbia had officially greenlit the project with a budget of $47 million and a planned start date in October.
Reeves has been “getting word” the cast is coming together already. According to Scriptshadow, Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland) is set as Mark Zuckerberg, the now 25-year-old CEO of Facebook with a net worth over $100 million. Pop entertainer Justin Timberlake is on board as Sean Parker, the entrepreneur who created Napster and became Facebook’s President when they incorporated in 2004. Andrew Garfield (Boy A) will play Eduardo Saverin, one of the social networking site’s co-founders.
I should expect nothing less from Fincher by now, but the casting is spot on. (I included some comparison pictures so you can see for yourself.) Timberlake isn’t my first choice, but he has the swagger and the playboy background Parker is known for. He just needs to grow the curls out again. Eisenberg is perfect as the socially awkward nerd and a proven dramatic actor. Plus Garfield who was excellent in his star-making role in the fantastic film Boy A.
Like many others I scoffed at the idea of a Facebook movie, but this seems to be coming together nicely. Again these are just the rumored players, so until we get further confirmation this is just Internet chatter. Now I’m off to my own Facebook page to ignore game requests. No, I don’t want to participate in your virtual pillow fight.
